Why "The Modern Esther"?

I remember being told I couldn’t be doctor when I was a child because I was a girl, and girls became nurses. I think it was then that I started falling in love with Esther. For me, she truly was that heroine that came before the king proclaiming “If I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16). I loved her faith, her strength, and her kindness. And for a long time, I felt like she was one of the only “strong” woman in the Bible who was truly bold. Growing up, I always wanted to be that bold woman. I wanted to "tell it like it is," speak truth always, stand up for what was right- no matter the consequences. I wanted to be different. I wanted to be Esther.

Little did I know there are many strong heroines in scripture. There are over 100 woman mentioned throughout the entire Bible.  Some, in fact, that were equal in Esther’s beauty, faith, and strength, and catch this- some even had a career.

Amy and I both cannot wait to unfold who these woman are, their stories, and perhaps a different perspective on some of the better known heroines of the Bible. We hope that by dissecting their stories,  they can relate to you, your career, and your personal relationship with Christ. As you begin to walk through the lives of these woman, we hope you start to see that God did plant women just like you in scripture. You are not atypical. You are not forgotten. You are not unloved. And you are not odd. You are set apart. You are different. And you do have a purpose that maybe you don't even realized. For you are, in fact, The Modern Esther.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well."

-Psalm 139:14
